We found out about a non-profit organization called Eden Reforestation Projects.
They are one of the biggest planting trees organizations in the world; and they are awesome.
They started planting trees in 2004. As of July 2019 they had planted 250 million trees around the planet.
After every month, we check how many bookings were done through Travelinho.com and we make a donation to Eden Reforestation Projects so they can employ the villagers to plant trees.
The trees are planted in six different countries:
You can have a look at this page for more details about each project.
What trees are planted depends on each region. It is very important that the species are native, so they are already adapted to the specific conditions of that region.
For many of the projects, mangroves are the kind of trees planted. In this video you can learn more about why mangroves are important.
We earn money through commissions when we redirect people like you to another website and you make a booking.
This has no additional cost for you. The booking will be the same price either you go directly to the website to book or you are redirected by us.
Businesses invest money to get customers.
For example, by placing an add on the newspaper or paying an influencer to mention them.
When they pay commissions, it is also an investment for them to get new customers. But this does not have any influence on the final price.
We then donate a part of the commission for planting trees.
The amount of CO2 absorbed by a tree will depend on several factors, like the kind of tree, its location, its age...
It was actually very difficult to find reliable studies. We eventually came up with 5 kg CO2/year.
According to a study in South-East Asia, a forest of 5-year-old-mangroves absorbs 4 tones of CO2 per hectare each month, which is 48 tones of CO2 per hectare per year.
Taking the most conservative value, we obtain that one 5-year-old mangrove absorbs 5 kg CO2 in one year.
If the absorbtion was the same each year, the tree would absorb at least 100 kg of CO2 during its first 20 years.
